COMENTARIO DE MINICHAMPS
On June 27th 1962 the Giulia was introduced to the market. It was no longer called Giulietta Berlina and in comparison to its predecessor it became more spacious. The name was complemented by further additional amendments. The car body was a complete new development and defined the sports saloon as it was meant to be in terms of the brand image, which promised sportive handling and emotions for every day. The form was rather high and edgy and it was not obvious that this car was developed in the wind tunnel. The cw value was only 0,34. The small engine (Giulia 1300) developed 78 hp and was capable of reaching a top speed of 160 Km/h. The top version (1600 ti Super) developed 112 hp and 190 Km/h respectively. A citation out of Auto Motor und Sport states the following: dominance, which can only be used in moderation, in case you do not want to scare the other traffic participants. Between 1963 and 1964 only 501 cars were produced and sold to private race car drivers exclusively. Still today it is the most searched version and prices up to 50000 Euros are asked and paid. For the average alfa fan, the Giulia 1300 with 78hp and a simple appearance was presented in 1964. In order to use the sportive success of the TI Super in large scale production, the top model Giulia Super was offered to the public from 1965 on. This version was responsible for the legendary character of this car. Engine parts from the TI super were used and resulted in 98 hp, which were good for 175 km/h. The car was heavily equipped with chrome parts and also received a noble interior. As a result it was sold very well right from the start. In 1966 the 1300 TI was presented as the base car with an 82 hp strong engine that was sold over 120.000 times until 1972. The original model from 1967 labelled TI was ceased, in order to avoid confusion with the successful Super and 1300 TI. A pared-down version of the 1600 appeared in 1969 and was labelled Giulia S. It possessed 95hp, but due to the lack of success it was ceased only one year later. In the same year a small 1300 was presented as Giulia 1300 Super (89hp). From April 1972 on it is aligned optically with the top model. That means it is also equipped with the double head light grill and a noble interior. These were the final verisions labelled Giulia Super 1.6 and Giulia Super 1.3.
